Confirm the feature exists in your version
Before troubleshooting the item, confirm that the Ancient Tome feature is present and enabled in your Quark release. A feature can move, change or be removed between major Minecraft generations.
If a server controls the configuration, your local expectations may not match the server’s enabled modules.
Understand its enchanting context
In Quark releases that include the feature, Ancient Tomes are designed to push a compatible enchantment one level higher. The current project language entry describes a Tome as upgrading an item or enchanted book by one level, up to one level above the enchantment’s normal maximum.
The same project data describes Ancient Tomes as rare dungeon or stronghold loot. That rarity is important context: they are meant to be discovered and used selectively, not treated as a normal low-cost recipe. Version changes can still alter the surrounding module, so match any instructions to your installed branch.
Why an Ancient Tome may appear “broken”
Common causes include disabled modules, outdated instructions, a mismatched dependency or another mod that changes enchanting behavior. Test the feature in a minimal profile if the result is unclear.
If it works with only Quark and required dependencies, reintroduce other enchantment-related mods gradually to identify the interaction.
Protect existing items during updates
Back up before upgrading a world that contains modded enchanted items. Major version changes can alter identifiers or mechanics, and rollback is easier when the original save is untouched.
